Francis D’Souza appointed Deputy Chief Minister of Goa

Though the Mapusa MLA was always considered to be the number two-man in the BJP government led by the Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar today, on quite auspiciously on his birthday Franics D’Souza has been officially appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Goa.

Currently holding the Urban Development portfolio, D’Souza amongst fellow BJP ministers and party colleagues is considered to be an upright and dedicated politician. His continuous success for the last couple of years from the Mapusa constituency and his strong support to Parrikar in the Opposition has what endeared him to the local decision makers and even the BJP high command.

While the appointment of D’Souza has been on cards for sometime now, its timing at this stage, when the government is facing an impending financial crisis on account of the shut-down of mining operations and the CMs U-Turns on numerous issues has found Parrikar losing support amongst his own MLA flock, even from some in the alliance; many feel it is a diversion tactic to endear the Catholic voter base to the BJP, with a Catholic face as a Deputy CM.
