South Goa District Congress Committee Vice President Francis Sequeira has thrown his hat in the ring for the Congress ticket from Benaulim assembly constituency while stating that he will abide by the party decision on the matter.
Speaking to media persons at Margao on Saturday he said he had conveyed his decision to seek the party ticket to his party seniors and was confident that his claim would be positively considered in view of the work he has done for the party for the last many years.
Questioned about Valanka Alemao, he said he was not aware whether she was a member of the party or of the Youth Congress stating that he did not have access to the membership list, but clarified that she was not holding any official party position in the Congress organizations in Goa.
He asserted that the party had not yet promised the tickets to anyone and also conceded that the Benaulim constituency may well be allotted to the Nationalist Congress Party with whom the Congress has an alliance in Goa.
While admitting that Luizinho Faleiro and Francisco Sardinha are his personal friends and supporting his claim, he said he will abide by the party decision even if it denies him his wish.
He said that some Congress ministers were bringing a bad name to the party due to their malpractices including corruption but refused to name them saying that people knew who they were. Replying to a question he said there was no need for him to send a report of the malpractices as his senior leaders have already appraised the party high command about it.
