Fugitive gangster Ejaz Lakdawala held days after after daughter’s arrest


Mumbai, Jan 9 (GCCurrentAffairs) Gangster Ejaz Lakdawala, once a member of the Dawood Ibrahim gang, was arrested from Patna airport by the city police’s anti-extortion cell and remanded to police custody till January 21, Mumbai Police Commissioner Sanjay Barve said on Thursday.
Briefing mediapersons here, the Commissioner said Lakdawala was wanted in more than 25 cases of extortion, attempt to murder and rioting. He used to threaten people for ransom using international numbers and Mumbai police was on a look out for him.
Once a Dawood gang member, he later parted ways and began working for Chhota Rajan and worked with him between 1992 and 2008.
Later, there was a discord between them on economy and started his own gang.
In 2002, he was attacked by Chhota Rajan gang at Bangkok as seven bullets were hit to him.
His daughter Sifa Shahid Shaikh, alias Sonia Ejaj Lakdawaka, was also nabbed under the IPC sections 387, 34 120 (B).
After getting a tip-off that Lakdawala was coming at Jakkanur police jurisdiction in Bihar, Mumbai police took help of Bihar police and was arrested on Wednesday.
The arrested Lakdawala was staying in Canada, United Kingdom, the US, Malaysia Cambodia and Nepal.
He stocked his assets at Canada, Malaysia and London, police added.
