The Gandhi Market Vendors Association celebrated its 23rd anniversary at Margao on Thursday with PWD Minister Churchill Alemao, Panchayats Minister Manohar Azgaonkar, Zilla Panchayat Member Maria Miranda and Goa Pradesh Congress Committee General Secretary Vijai Sardessai as guests.
Churchill Alemao felicitated two retired employees of the Margao Municipal Council Ballapa Jamuni and Gangavva Jamuni for their dedicated services particularly in maintaining the Gandhi Market.
Addressing the gathering, Alemao praised the efforts put in by Panchayat Minister Manohar Azgaonkar for the emergence of Gandhi Market. In fact, it was Babu Azgaonkar who formed the Gandhi Market Vendors Association that extracted quite a lot of facilities particularly for the vegetable and fruit vendors.
Churchill urged the local population to grow local varieties of vegetables which have a very high demand in the market and expressed satisfaction over people belonging to OBC community in Goa selling their produce in Gandhi Market to earn their livelihood. He also advised the people to be united for the progress and development of the state.
Panchayat Minister Manohar Azgaonkar said that the vegetable and cloth vendors association is working for the well being of OBC and other community vendors and stressed on the need to keep Gandhi Market clean.
Azgaonkar who was a member of the Margao Municipal Council asked the present day councillors to pay attention to cleanliness in the city.
Assuring his support to the vendors transacting their business in Gandhi Market Azgaonkar said that the State Government is working for the welfare of people irrespective of caste, creed and religion and has been implementing various schemes to accomplish its goal, be it for vegetable and flower vendors, kiosk owners and others.
