The Goa Bachao Abhiyan on Thursday served a 15-day ultimatum to the government to meet its demand failing which it said they would bring about a change in the government.
A memorandum submitted to the Chief Minister’s official residence reiterated GBA’s demand to immediately notify the eco-sensitive zones like steep slopes, paddy fields, forested areas, mangroves, wetlands and lakes and ponds.
Besides GBA also demanded a notification honouring the decision of the Gram Sabha’s of Village Panchayat 3 status that opted for 50 FAR. Both these demands have to be met by 29th October, said GBA convenor Sabina Martins.
Earlier at the meeting held on Azad Maidan various speakers addressed the crowd on different aspects of the Regional Plan and a strident demand was made to adhere to the High Court order prohibiting development of multi-dwelling units till necessary infrastructure in terms of roads, electricity, drainage and sewerage were put on place.
Later as the crowd tried to march to the Chief Minsiter’s official residence they were stopped near the Panjim church causing major traffic congestion. A delegation was permitted to go to the official residence where a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Secretary in the absence of the Chief Minister, who incidentally did not also attend the ITM-Goa inauguration.
