The Goa Forward Party (GFP) has challenged the Goa Pradesh Congress Committee (GPCC) to move an adjournment motion in the Goa Assembly for a discussion on the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) scam in which senior Congress leaders and current MLAs were allegedly involved for which the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) had also filed a case against the Congress ministers & MLAs.
“Will the Congress now rush to the well of the House protesting the Cabinet decision to hush up the scam,” questioned the GFP chief spokesperson Trajano D’Mello.
The 84.65 crore SEZ scam exposed by the then Parrikar-led Opposition brought to light the involvement of two former Chief Ministers of Goa from the Congress Pratapsingh Rane and Luizinho Faleiro and the current Congress Leader of Opposition Chandrakant (Babu) Kavlekar and erstwhile Congress minister Alexio Sequeira.
In 2012, the Parrikar-led BJP government had initiated investigation proceedings against the accused Congress leaders through ACB. However, Goa government through a Cabinet decision last week dropped the cases against the accused Congress leaders in the SEZ scam and has also agreed to pay the developers of the SEZ scam Rs 236 crores.
