The Gujarat High Court Advocates’ Association (GHCAA) has written to the Chief Justice of Gujarat High Court, Justice Vikram Nath and his companion judges requesting that the physical functioning of the High Court be resumed without further delay.
The letter notes that while the Managing Committee of the GHCAA has previously made several representations on the same subject, their request has not been acceded to.
In this regard, it is stated that such a letter was forwarded on February 2, which was signed by the Bar Presidents of four metros citing various illustrations to persuade the authorities to resume the physical functioning of the courts.
The conduct of local body elections by the State election commission and the hosting of 5-7 cricket matches between India and England in Ahmedabad are two more examples cited by the GHCAA to urge for the resumption of the Court’s physical functioning.
“Safety, Health and Security are essentially the concern of the State Government and only if the state government feels that atmosphere is conducive to hold the elections that the SEC must have proceeded to hold the election and it can be safely and reasonably presumed that the pandemic of Covid 19 must have been discussed in great details”, adds the letter.
It is further stated that if the request is not acceded to, the General Body of the GHCAA has would endorse the decision of the Managing Committee to stage a protest on February 19 at 10.30 am at entry gate no. 2 of the High Court.
