After a long gap of 50 years, the Goa Archdiocese got a bumper crop of 18 new priests this year who were ordained at different places in the state in the month of October.
The 18 new priests ordained this year are Fr. Benson Colaco from Raia, Fr. Mathew Rebello from Navelim, Fr. Mario Souza from Seraulim, Mr. Michael Fernandes from Benaulim, Fr. Joseph Rodrigues from Shiroda, Fr. Maxson Fernandes from Assolna, Fr. Jason Vaz from Cuncolim, Fr. Arnaldo Pinho from Verna, Fr. Savio Pinto
from Betalbatim, Fr. Manuel Rodrigues from Nuvem, Fr. Seby Vaz and Fr. Ramiro Luis both from Majorda, Fr. Rosario Oliveira from Paroda, Fr. Natalino Fernandes from Ambaulim, Fr. Ancy D’Cunha from Batim, Fr. Jeronimo Afonso from Siridao, Fr. Joao Coelho from Arambol (who incidentally is the first priest in the Goan Archdiocese from this village), and Fr. Barry Cardozo from Cansaulim.
This bonanza of 18 priests in a year coincides with the 400 years celebration of the Rachol Seminary where they were trained in their priestly mission.
