Goa Governor Dr. S S Sidhu said that Goa can be branded as a stand alone tourist destination as it is much beyond the Incredible India campaign of the Government of India to attract tourists.
Addressing the delegates of the first International Travel Mart – Goa after inaugurating it, the Governor admitted that the state government would have to spend a lot more on promotion.
He also said that Goa should focus on responsible tourism which would entail enabling local communities to participate in the industry and also enjoy a better quality of life.
While opining that the State should plan for a bigger involvement in the hospitality sector in future, he acknowledged the role of private players in the trade and said the government should be the prime facilitator for up gradation of infrastructure.
Tourism Minister Nilkant Halarnkar and Goa Tourism Development Corporation Chairman Shyam Satardekar were the guests of honour for the inaugural function of ITM-Goa which has around 200 participating houses for the four-day event being held at Campal, Panjim.
