Goa Budget 2012: Football accorded Official State Sport status

Bringing cheer and smiles to many players and fans of Goan football in the state and Goans across the world, the Chief Minister, Manohar Parrikar in the Budget 2012 has accorded ‘Football’ with the ‘Official State Sport’ status.

In addition the Chief Minister has decided to set up a Goa State Football Development Council under Dr Rufino Monteiro with a corpus fund of Rs 5 crore.

Also in the Budget, Parrikar announced that a new football ground is to be developed in Benaulim.

Football has been a passion for many Goans and it is has been a sport that has connected Goans not only in India but also in the Non Resident Goan communities’ world over.
