Goa cabinet clears path for forming of mining corporation

Panaji: The state cabinet on Friday cleared the path for forming a mining corporation as a bill related to that will be introduced in the state assembly when it meets on July 28.

Addressing a press conference, Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said Goa Mineral Development Corporation Bill 2021 would be introduced in the forthcoming session of the state assembly.

The Chief Minister said the new Motor Vehicles Act would be implemented in April 2022 with minimum fines imposed on the violators as proposed by the Centre.

“Appointment of ten pharmacists, five laboratory technician and pathologists were igven approval, Goa Housing Board Amendment Bill 2021 was approved, a bill for Bar Council of India (BCI) trust to establish a new law university in the state also got approval in the cabinet,” the Chief Minister said.

He said the state cabinet also resolved to establish a full-fledged fire and emergency services at Cuncolim.

Dr Sawant said the Goa Panchayati Raj Act would be amended so that there were no illegal houses in the state.

“A bill to amend the Goa Panchayati Raj will be introduced during the Assembly sessions starting next week wherein it has been proposed to issue house number to all unauthorised houses for the purpose of collecting house tax,” the Chief Minister said, in the presence of Panchayat Minister Mauvin Godinho.

He pointed out that often there was demand in the assembly to collect taxes from the unauthorised houses.

Godinho said 50 per cent of the houses situated in village panchayats had no house numbers and that was the reason that village panchayats were losing their revenue.
