Goa CM has failed in giving people-friendly governance: Digambar Kamat

Leader of Opposition Digambar Kamat on Thursday said that BJP Government in Goa has realized that it has completely failed in giving people-friendly governance and hence Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has now entered into a “Face Saving Mode”.

In a statement, he said,” I had demanded almost a year back for an economic revival package of Rs 100 crore to help the marginalized sector. What the Chief Minister has announced is “BJP’s Election Revival Package”.

”The Chief Minister is making the same announcements which the Congress Party demanded almost a year back but without any concrete execution plan. These announcements will remain on paper till the elections come. People will continue to suffer for the next eight months. Goa’s fortune will change only after Congress Party forms the Government in 2022,” Kamat said.

The former Chief Minister said the announcement made by the Chief Minister on giving Rs 5000 to the traditional occupations as one-time financial aid has and meaning at all in this critical times of Covid Pandemic when they were suffering for last almost one and half years.

The government must increase the amount to Rs 25,000 per person, he demanded.

The former Chief Minister said he suspected of ulterior motives of the government in giving relaxation in rent to mobile tower operators, which, he said, maybe an attempt to support the crony club of the BJP.

”Chief Minister must explain why the government is reluctant to expand the already existing Intranet Optic Fibre Cable Broadband Network in Goa which has reached every Panchayat in the State,” he said.

Kamat said the government must immediately implement the “Goemche Daiz Scheme” initiated by the Congress government to support the traditional occupations of Goa.

”Short-term announcements will not help the traditional occupations like Motorcycle Pilots, Poders, Renders, Fulkars, Khajekars, Barbers, Coblers, Kakonkars, and others. It is most unfortunate that the Government has shelved the “Goa Vision 2035” document prepared by the Committee headed by eminent Scientist Dr. Raghunath Mashelkar. The said committee comprising of experts from various fields had prepared a comprehensive document that can take Goa to newer heights of progress and development. I think this document will now see the light of the day when the Congress Government comes to power,” he claimed.
