Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Wednesday urged village panchayat members to identify and convince villagers with Covid 19 symptoms to get themselves tested and hospitalised.
In a virtual interaction with village panchayat members across the state, he said bringing down mortality rate due to Covid 19 was the responsibility of government alone.
”We are working to bring down the mortality rate, but it is not the responsibility of the doctors alone. Please reach out to villagers who have symptoms to get themselves tested and hospitalised if they test positive. People continue to stay at home out of fear if they have a temperature, which in turn is increasing the Covid-19 mortality rate in the state,” he said.
The Chief Minister said the state government was making efforts to create separate infrastructure for testing services and vaccination drive which is to start from May 1, 2020, for people aged above 18 years.
“We have to focus on testing. People stay at home out of fear. They need counselling. All ward members should reach out to them. Urge people to test themselves. Wear masks, maintain social distancing and ensure that markets and bus stands should not be crowded,” he said
Dr Sawant said the vaccination drive would happen at schools in the state.
The coastal state has witnessed surge in Covid -19 mortality rates for the fast few days. Currently there are 16,591 active cases, while 1086 persons have succumbed to the infection.
