Goa could be green zone by April 17 if no more COVID-19 positive patients are detected: CM

Panaji: Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant on Tuesday said that if no more COVID-19 positive patients were detected in the state then it would be a green zone by April 17, 2020, for the disease.

Addressing a press conference at his official residence in the city, he said, as per guidelines for COVID-19 issued by the Union Government, South Goa District had been declared as Green Zone and if there were no more detections, then the North District would also be declared as green zone.

However, he said that as neighbouring Sindhudurg district in Maharashtra had been classified as Orange Zone and Belgavi district in Karnataka continued to report positive patients, the vigilance along the state borders would be increased.

Dr Sawant said that truck drivers and their assistants entering the state would have to go through a senitisation channel at the border before entering the state.

The Chief Minister said all the government offices were supposed to be open after April 14, 2020, but the decision was deferred.

He said seven persons were detected as COVID-19 positive patients but out of them five had recovered and two were recuperating.

The Chief Minister said the decision on giving relaxation to the sectors during the lockdown would be taken after receiving guidelines from the Centre which was expected to be announced on April 15, 2020.

Dr Sawant urged people to cooperate with the government during the lockdown period which had been extended till May 3, 2020.
