Director of Higher Education Bhaskar Nayak on Monday submitted the draft education policy for the State of Goa to the government. Titled “The Goa State Integrated Education Policy 2011” the policy was being prepared for the last four years.
The reportedly 30 page document is supposed to map out the education plan for children right from the Kindergarten to higher education level and according to sources, will be kept open for public suggestions and objections before being notified.
According to Nayak, the policy has been prepared after taking inputs from various sub-committees. And though it was also referred to all the 40 MLAs, only two – Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar and Aleixo Lourenco gave their comments on it while the others did not bother.
Besides, the policy was also circulated to the various stakeholders including the Education Department, Goa Headmaster Association, Diocesan Board of Education, Higher Secondary School Principals’ Association, College Principals’ Association and teachers unions.
Although the policy has been submitted to the government in keeping with Education Minister Babush Monserrate’s assurance on the floor of the House, details are not known as the policy needs to get the government’s approval first.
