Goa government appeals citizens’ push for plastic, pollution free state

Panaji, December 19 (GCCurrentAffairs): Goa government has appealed the people to assist its efforts to make the coastal state plastic and pollution free.

As Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar is ailing, Speaker of Legislative Assembly Pramod Sawant unfurled the flag on his behalf at the State level function held here in the morning.

Sawant in his address to the State mentioned about Parrikar’s inability to attend the event for medical reasons and said that he was speaking on behalf of the Chief Minister.

In his speech, Sawant said that the State government is pushing to make Goa plastic and pollution free, but the efforts can be fruitful only with the active participation of citizens.

“On this day, let us take the pledge to make Goa Plastic and Pollution free State. The efforts of government cannot be achieved without active participation of the citizens,” the Speaker said.

Sawant listed out various developmental programs, infrastructural works and employment generating initiatives taken up by the State government with the help of Centre.

He said that the completion of two bridges over Mandovi and Zuari rivers each, in addition to the existing ones (bridges) will help smoothen the traffic flow from North to South of Goa.

Sawant, during his speech, also recalled the sacrifices made by freedom fighters and citizens to get State Liberated from 450-year-long Portuguese rule in the year 1961. He also commanded Indian Armed forces which pushed out the Portuguese Military from the State, adding Goa to the mainstream India.
