Goa Minister for Water Resources Vinod Palyekar on Wednesday said that government through its various programmes and schemes was striving to empower women.
Speaking as the Chief Guest at the inaugural function of a ‘Consumer Rights Awareness’ workshop organized by Goa Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan to enlighten women regarding their rights as consumers at State Secretariat at Porvorim near the city, he said,”The Government through its various programmes and schemes is striving to empower women. Women do not lag behind in any field when compared to men. Women excel in every field.”
He lauded the work done by Mahila Shakti Abhiyan towards woman empowerment and education.
President of Goa Panchayat Mahila Shakti Abhiyan Nelly Rodrigues explained the purpose of the workshop and appealed to participants to acquire knowledge to strengthen themselves.
She said through Abhiyan, efforts were being made to organize workshops, health camps, training courses for women with the intention to make them become self employed and self reliant.
Convener of GOACAN Roland Martins, who was the key note speaker for the workshop, in his address enlightened the participants about their rights and duties as consumers.
He also informed that the Government has implemented various laws to safeguard the interests of consumers.
Unnati Sahastrabuddhe, President North Goa District GPMSA, welcomed the gathering.
