Goa government’s intention on Special Status is firm: Francis Dsouza

Goa Minister for Law and Judiciary Francis Dsouza on Monday informed State Legislative Assembly that the government intends to have a Special Status for the state and making necessary efforts in the matter with the Central Government.

In a written reply tabled in the assembly in response to a question asked by Congress MLA Jennifer Monserrate, Dsouza said the resolution passed in the Goa Legislative Assembly/Memorandum had been forwarded to the Union Government for granting Special Status to Goa on the lines of Special Status granted to the states of Mizoram, Himachal Pradesh and Uttaranchal under Article 371 or any other provision of the Constitution of India for regulating ownership and transfer of
land in order to conserve limited resources available for development and to ensure that the state preserved its unique identity.

“The matter is pending before the Government of India,” he said.
