Goa Governor extends Diwali greetings

Panaji, Oct 26 (GCCurrentAffairs) Goa Governor Mridula Sinha on Saturday extended warm greetings to the people on the eve of Diwali.

In her message, the Governor said,” India is known for a myriad of colorful festivals. All the festivals bring equal amount of joy, one such joyous festival is Diwali. Also called the festival of lights, the ancient traditions that extends across many cultures and beliefs is celebrated for five days and is one of the most anticipated and eagerly awaited of all Indian celebrations.”

”Diwali commemorates the victory of Lord Ram over Ravana and his triumphant return to the kingdom after a period of exile. Keen to make Lord Ram’s homecoming as swift and safe as possible, his jubilant followers illuminated the way with masses of twinkling diyas. It is for this reason the lighting of diyas has become a key component of the Diwali festival,” the Governor said.

“Diwali also symbolizes the replacement of darkness (ignorance) with ‘inner’ light- garnered via the pursuit of knowledge and spiritual practices. The light empowers us to commit ourselves to good deeds and bring us closer to divinity, indeed, spirituality lies at the heart of Diwali, with devotees seeking blessings from almighty for good fortune and auspicious beginnings,” she said.

”Let this Diwali be celebrated with great enthusiasm to cleanse our heart form all evil thoughts, bring more light of knowledge to our lives, and eradicate all negativity from the Society. May the divine light of Diwali spread into our lives, peace, prosperity, happiness and good health,” she said.
