Panaji: Goa Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari has extended warm greetings and best wishes to the people of Goa on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti.
In his message, the Governor said it was a matter of great pleasure that the 151st Birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi was being celebrated on 2nd October and the United Nations General Assembly had declared 2nd October as the International Day of Non-violence.
‘The life of Mahatma Gandhi epitomises the value of truth and nonviolence, so ardently cherished and championed by him. The nonviolent struggle in the form of Satyagraha shown by the Mahatma Gandhi has since been adopted by leaders across the world fighting for their legitimate rights and freedom,’ he said.
The Governor said,’ Mahatma Gandhi laid greatest thrust on cleanliness, sanitation and personal hygiene. We owe it to him a clean society and a clean nation. Even he emphasized on the use of Swadeshi for the self-reliance of the country. Mahatma Gandhi often said that service to the poor and suffering people is service to god. At this juncture when the world is passing through the pandemic of Corona Virus Disease, we must remember the message of Mahatma Gandhi.
Let us all resolve to uphold and practice the values preached and practiced by Mahatma Gandhi on his birth anniversary,’ the Governor concluded.
