Goa Governor Mridula Sinha has extended her greetings and best wishes to the people of Goa and specially the Keralite Community on the eve of Onam.
In her message, the Governor said, “Onam is the biggest and the most important festival of the state of Kerala. Onam is a harvest festival and celebrates the reward of nature after a year of hard work. It is celebrated with great joy and enthusiasm all over the state by people of all communities. According to legends, the festival is celebrated to welcome King Mahabali. It was said that King Mahabali ruled Kerala a long time ago and looked after the welfare of the people. Thus Onam shows the blissful rule of the King and the freedom, which the people enjoyed under his rule. The festival is observed as a 10 day celebration. Onam is also celebrated as a thanks giving festival to Lord for his kindness and seek his blessings for the same prosperity in the next year too.”
The Governor further mentioned that “it was a festival that unites all the people regardless of race and religion, hence, Onam is a grand festival which promotes emotional integration among the people, which in turn contributes to national unity and integrity.”
The Governor hoped that this year’s Onam celebrations would bring added joy and enthusiasm to the people.
