Goa, Karnataka achieves milestone in tax collection – Rs 1 lakh crore upto March 27

Karnataka & Goa Regions of the Income Tax Department has achieved a milestone by exceeding net collection of Rs 1 lakh Crore till March 27.

Alex Mathew, Income Tax Officer (HQ)( PR) for Principle Chief Commissioner of Income Tax, Bengaluru, in a release here on Wednesday, said that the assessees who have not filed returns of income for 2016-17 and 2017-18 have last opportunity to file by March 31 after payment of taxes due on such returns.

He said that the officers are seriously looking at non-remittance of taxes deducted at source. Such deductors would be penalised with levy of Interest and finally prosecution in the next 3 months.

He said that the Central Board of Direct Taxes have ordered that Income tax offices in the country would remain open on March 29, 30 and 31 to enable filing of paper returns wherever permitted.
