Goa Police Visit Belgaum To Investigate Desai Case

The Goa Police team consisting of Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahesh Gaonkar, Police Inspector John Fernandes and Constable Viraj Rane visited Belgaum on Monday to investigate the arrest of Police Constable Arun Desai attached to Margao Police Station.
The team met Belgaum Superintendent of Police (SP) Sandeep Patil and Additional SP and after the court’s permission interrogated accused Arun Dessai in Hindalga Central Jail.
It may be recalled that on 11th January, Belgaum Police had arrested Desai along with four others with 2.6 kg of Hashish that was brought to Belgaum in a Maruti van owned by Desai.

DySP Mahesh Gaonkar said they wanted to confirm whether Desai was arrested by Belgaum Police at Belgaum. He further informed that they recorded his statement about how he landed in Belgaum on Tuesday because he was neither on leave nor had informed his seniors about his absence. In fact, Desai was posted on bandobast duty that night at the Fatorpa temple where the annual zatra was on and failed to report for duty.
The DySP further said, “Though he is the man from my force, no leniency will be shown,” and informed that Desai has agreed that he was arrested by Belgaum Police along with four drug peddlers.
Goa Police also recorded the statements of four others who were arrested — Bikas Ravikumar Bahaddur, Rajkumar Bahaddur, Sheela Bahaddur, all from Nepal, and Priyank Kapoor Singh from Uttar Pradesh.
However, Gaonkar did not comment on interrogations done by him and stated that Goa Police would cooperate with Belgaum Police to investigate this case.
