Goa Minister for Town and Country Planning (TCP) Vijay Sardesai on Wednesday exhorted the people to build a new Goa with positive mindset and focus on planned development to make Goa a model state for union of states to emulate which in turn will build new India.
Speaking after unfurling the national trio-colour at the District Level Independence Day celebrations at Matanhy Saldanha Administrative Complex here, he asserted that the government was committed to the progress of the state by bringing in reforms in consultation with all stakeholders.
“The views, voices and opinion of all including the dissenting voices are taken. Consensus is then worked out to bring in the reforms in the larger interest of the society,” he said.
Sardesai pointed out that the government was commitment to provide opportunities to the people of Goa. The government, he said, had to work within the ambit of the constitution while making reforms and acts.
Recalling the sacrifices of the Mahatma Gandhi and freedom fighters who struggled to attain independence and providing the initial direction to the nation, the TCP Minister urged the people to contribute to building the nation, the fastest growing economy in the world.
Goa had seen progress in all spheres even though it had missed the first two year five year plans, he said and added that the National Census showed Goa ahead in terms of quality of life.
The Minister on his arrival was received by the Collector and District Magistrate, South Goa District, Dr Tariq Thomas. He also inspected the Guard of Honour.
Chairperson, MMC, Dr Babita Prabhudessai; Dy Chairperson, MMC, Tito Cardozo; Chairperson, ZP, Navnath Naik; Ex-Minister, Avertano Furtado; Superintendent Of Police, Shekar Prabhudessai; Additional Collectors, Agnelo Fernandes and Surendra Naik; Chief Officer, Sidhivinayak Naik; Freedom Fighters, councillors, senior government officials were among those prominent persons present on the occasion.
