GOA to create awareness of Tokyo Olympics

Union Minister of State for Ports, Shipping and Waterways and Tourism and President of Goa Olympic Association (GOA) Shripad Naik on Thursday announced Tokyo Olympics awareness and promotional programmes.

The 17 days awareness drive includes daily Live telecast of the Olympic events on big screen at Kadamba Bus Stand, Panaji, and Agakhan Municipal Park, Margao. After the daily events, there will be a felicitation of eminent sports persons at both the venues.

Four Cycle rallies with Cycling Association and Cycling clubs have also been planned in North Goa and South Goa districts. Mini Marathon in Ponda and Mini Marathon and Tennis ball cricket match to take place at indoor stadium, Mapusa. Olympic quiz for higher secondary school and college organized in collaboration with Rotaract Club of Mapusa and Rotary Club of Margao.

Ex-president of Goa Olympic Association and Goans, who headed National federations, Patrons of State Sports Associations will also be honoured.

Mr Naik appealed to Goans to come forward and cheer for Indian athletes. This would create interest in sports in the minds of the students, he said. Tokyo Olympics is Scheduled from July 23 to August 8.
