Goa Minister for Tourism Manohar Azgaonkar unfurled the national flag on the occasion of Independence Day at the Office of the Mamlatdar in Pernem in North Goa on Wednesday.
Speaking on the occasion, Azgaonkar said, “Because of our freedom fighters’ sacrifices we are celebrating this day today and if we need to make our country hundred per cent free and independent then there is a need to protect our future youth from indulging in drug-related activities.”
He urged parents, teachers and the general public to bring to the notice of the concerned authorities with regards to any drug related activities and assured that immediate action would be taken.
Deputy Collector Pernem Sudhir Kerkar, Mamlatdar Pernem, Rajesh Azgaonkar, BDO Pernem Prajakta Goltekar and Chairperson Pernem Municipality Shraddha Mashelkar were present on the occasion.
Thereafter, the dignitaries proceeded to the Martyr’s Memorial Patradevi where the Minister for Tourism laid a wreath at the Martyr’s Memorial.
ZP Member Ramesh Sawal, ZP Member Tukaram Harmalkar, Chairperson Pernem Municipality Shraddha Mashelkar, MLA Mandrem Dayanand Sopte, President of Goa, Daman and Diu Freedom Fighters Association Chandrakant Pednekar and President of Freedom Fighters Association Pandurang Kunkalienkar also laid a wreath at the Marty’s Memorial.
