Panaji, Feb 4 (GCCurrentAffairs) The Goa Civic and Consumer Action Network (GOACAN) will observe the 30th National Road Safety Week from 4th to 10th February with a special focus on the issues of Road Safety faced by Senior Citizens in the villages and towns of Goa as part of its ongoing campaign on Road Safety and Traffic Management.
GOACAN Co-ordinator Ronald Martins in a statement said in the areas of Road Safety Education and Engineering many senior citizens had been raising issues that need immediate attention and some of them being the need for more awareness programs for senior citizens on Road Safety and Traffic Management, proper signages, increase in the number zebra crossings, proper maintenance of subways, obstruction free footpaths, ramps at designated spots and more notified bus stops & bus bays among others.
During the week, GOACAN would highlight the role of the senior citizen as a member of the Road Safety and Traffic Management Committee in the Village Panchayat and Municipal Council. The active participation of Senior Citizens as Traffic Wardens of the Goa Traffic Police would also be highlighted during the week.
To promote last mile connectivity in Goa and the need for public transport to be Comfortable, Affordable, Safe and Efficient (CASE) GOACAN would actively pursue the need for Safe Buses and Safe Bus Stands during the Week.
During the week, GOACAN would also promote among consumers the proper purchase and use of ISI marked helmets and highlight the importance of seat belt usage by the co-passengers in a four wheeler, Mr Martins said.
