Kochi, Sept 21 (GCNews)The Crime Branch of the Kerala Police have arrested Catholic Bishop Franco Mulakkal on accusations of raping a 44-yr old nun from the Missionaries of Jesus congregation after 88 days of the victim nun filing a police complaint.
GoaChronicle.com team in Goa, Delhi and Kochi have relentlessly pursued this case right from our shocking expose highlighting the evidence with the Kerala police and the political pressure put on them to not arrest the accused Bishop after the Kerala High Court hearing on August 14th.
The accused Bishop was arrested after a 22-hour interrogation done over a period of three days.
The Bishop from the Archdiocese of Jalandhar was relieved of his pastoral duties by the Vatican earlier in the day.
The delayed in the arrest of the accused rapist is believed to have occurred because of immense political and religious pressure on the Kerala crime branch to go slow on the case.
Nuns from Missionaries of Jesus and 14 Christian organisations were on a 14-day protest outside the High Court near Vanchi Square demanding justice for the nun and arrest of the Bishop.
