Goans need to adopt Telangana model for regional politics: Sardesai

Panjim: Reacting to the results of State Legislative Assembly election announced on Tuesday, Goa Forward Party (GFP), the coalition partners in the Manohar Parrikar-led State government Wednesday said that Goans need to adopt Telangana model of regional politics.

Telangana Rashtra Samithi made a clean sweep during Telangana State Assembly elections by winning 88 seats out of 119. Congress won 19 seats, while BJP managed to gain victory on one seat.

Talking to reporters in Panaji, GFP President and Minister for Agriculture Vijai Sardesai said that the victory of Telangana Rashtra Samithi needs to be welcomed as it is a “victory of regionalism.”

“It is a landslide victory for a regional political outfit. It is a victory of regionalism which I also asperse,” he commented.

“So I feel that Goans should also look at Telangana model where it is completely about regionalistic sentiments,” he added.

GFP won three out of four seats it contested in 2017 Assembly elections. All the three MLAs- Sardesai, Jayesh Salgaonkar and Vinod Palyekar are Ministers in the Parrikar cabinet.

Sardesai said that Telangana Rashtra Samithi victory has given much needed boost to the regional parties across country.

“Telangana Rashtra Samithi had adopted a very good system ensuring time bound services to the people. More so they kept on giving daily dose of regionalistic sentiments which has seen them in good taste,” he stated.

Further while commenting on the assembly election results in all five States, Sardesai said that the results are wake up call to the Narendra Modi led government and that government will have to be more in touch with the aspirations of the people

“The congress has made a comeback and to some extent there is a need for a course correction in case if it felt that the people’s aspirations are not being met through government policies,” he said.

“These were the semi-finals and BJP will have to prepare itself better for the finals (LS polls). There is still scope,” he said
