Goa’s Demands Will Be Given Special Consideration: Shinde

Union Minister for Power Sushil Kumar Shinde assured to give special consideration to the demands and problems of Goa, while speaking at the 3-day state power utility meet organized by Power Finance Corporation Limited, New Delhi which is underway at Arossim.
He said Goa has entered the 50th year of its liberation and the Union Government will give special consideration to Goa’s demands of solving its problem in powers sector and other areas following Goa’s Chief Minister Digamber Kamat’s request to offer special golden jubilee package for the state.

Stating that the Union Government will go for underground power transmission system to reduce power losses in the long run, Shinde said that the tourist spots and religious places will also be considered for this system to make these places beautiful.
Margao the commercial town of Goa has already been provided with this facility; he said and listed the number of initiatives taken by the Government for sustainable development of energy sector in India.
In order to promote India’s development in power sector, the Minister said that Power Ministry has launched the Restructured Accelerated Power Development and Reforms Programme (R-APDRP) with focus on establishment of baseline data and fixation of accountability and reduction of aggregate technical and commercial losses through strengthening and upgradation of sub-transmission and distribution network and adoption of information technology during XI Plan.
He said the R-APDRP also aims at reducing the AT and C losses of the distribution utilities to below 15% and thus improve the financial health of the power sector in the states.
Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said that power is the lifeline of the country and therefore efforts are needed for the growth of power sector.
Kamat said public utilities like Power Finance Corporation Limited have to play an important role in creation of additional power and improvement of distribution system. He said, though Goa has achieved cent percent electrification, Goa’s commitment in its golden jubilee year of liberation will be to see that not a single house in Goa remains without power.
Power Minister Aleixo Sequeira highlighted the importance of power and said that without power we cannot achieve progress and development. He asked Power Finance Corporation Limited to give some incentives to Goa for the development of power sector in the state.
