Goa’s Web 3.0 conference: The start to a revolution

The Web 3.0 conference, which is about to take place in Goa from August 12th to 14th, 2022, has become a major talking point with all the buzz it is creating among tech-geeks. The Atal Incubation Centre at the Goa Institute of Management (AIC-GIM) has collaborated with GirlScript, a non-profit organization for the agnostic conference.

The Web 3.0 conference has been receiving a lot of attraction and more than 100 hackathon teams, over 70 speakers and 600 people have already confirmed their presence in the same. The conference will comprise various sessions concerned with networking, job opportunities and other knowledge-based nuances.

The third generation of the evolution of the world wide web, that is Web 3.0 will utilize artificial intelligence or AI and machine learning in order to develop more intelligent and adaptive web applications. The leap from Web 1.0 to Web 2.0 took around 10 years and it is estimated that it might take the same time or even more to reach the pinnacle of Web 3.0.

The first generation of web, called Web 1.0, invented by Tim Berners- Lee in the year 1989, enabled users to have access to information only with no interaction among the users via web. Following that, Web 2.0 came up in the year 2004. Named by Tim O’ Reilly, it became more of an interaction-based provider for the users of the web. Next, the major breakthrough will now be achieved with the coming of Web 3.0 with the users being able to interact with the use of augmented reality, virtual reality and the metaverse.

With 5G going hand-in-hand with Web 3.0, users will get more accurate data on websites, with the search engines making it easier for the users to get the desired information through AI. Another salient element added will be chat boxes and virtual assistants for customers.

While HTML, which defines the layout of web pages, will remain the base layer for Web 3.0 as well; the connectivity between data sources, how they connect and where the data stay could be different from the previous versions of the web. And while Web 2.0 applications and websites were based on a centralized database in order to deliver data, Web 3.0 will take the support of decentralized blockchain. Rather than having a centralized system for the database, DAO or the decentralized autonomous organization will become a self-governed tech.

What will be special about Web 3.0 is that it would fundamentally work with crypto and fiat currency and hence, payments through cryptocurrency could be kickstarted with the onset of Web 3.0. And while Web 1.0 and 2.0 were built with IPv4, Web 3.0 will be built with IPv6, which will provide to the need of more internet addresses.

With the revolutionizing conference around the corner, Anubha Mane, the founder of GirlScript Foundation said, “Many are under the impression that Web 3.0 is only about NFTs and crypto; however, it is much more than that and has a vast opportunity and potential which is still being explored. The aim of this conference is to get a glimpse into the future of India’s tech to explore the world of Web 3.0 and to deepen our knowledge about the same”.
