Gold smuggling case : IT department Intelligence wing says many accused were benamis

Kochi: The Intelligence wing of the Income Tax Department has said that many of the accused, who were arrested in connection with the diplomatic baggage gold smuggling case, were benamis.

It has come to light that there are many other persons who invested in the gold and shared the profit, sources said on Wednesday.

The Economic Offences Court granted permission for the I-T department to interrogate the accused to find out the people involved in the case.

Swapna Suresh, Sandeep Nair, Saith, K T Ramees, Hamjad Ali, Jalal, Muhammed Shafi, Muhammed Anvar and E Saithalavi will be questioned in the prison as part of this.

Though the investigation teams have identified the involvement of high profile individuals within and outside the country in the conspiracy of the gold smuggling, they could not collect evidence to prove this so far.
