Three members of the Goa Golden Jubilee Celebration Advisory Committee resigned on Tuesday protesting against the government’s decision to provide grants to English medium primary school.
Former chief minister Shashikala Kakodkar, former MLA Uday Bhembre and freedom fighter Naguesh Karmali who are also associated with the Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch resigned from the government committee.
Bhembre also announced his resignation from the Kala Academy and the committee for implementation of the Official Language Act. Besides, he said he would return the State Cultural Award bestowed upon him by the government in 2007-08.
Speaking to media persons, Bhembre accused the government of denationalizing Goans as done by the Portuguese earlier and said there was no point in celebrating Goa’s liberaton when the present government was threading the same path as the colonialists did.
