The Pilerne Citizen’s Forum (PCF) on Saturday accused the government of helping bogus voters enroll in Goa by delaying the appointment of Booth Level Officers (BLO).
Pointing out that the Election Commission of India had issued a circular on 9th September 2006 asking the Chief Electoral Officers of States to appoint BLOs to ensure “fidelity of electoral rolls”, the Goa the BLOs were appointed only in 2010 and 2011.
The BLOs were supposed to monitor the inclusion and deletion of names from electoral rolls and by delaying their appointment, bogus voters have been enrolled in the electoral rolls, alleged PCF president Prakash Bandodkar.
Due to this delay, mamlatdars and deputy collectors continued to be the custodians of the electoral rolls all this time and it is a known fact that these officials help politicians, particularly in the ruling, to form their vote banks, he said.
PCF has decided to add this discrepancy to the petition already being heard by the Bombay High Court at Goa against mamlatdars not following the laid down procedure while including names in the voter list.
