Chief Minister Digambar Kamat disbursed financial assistance of Rs 5.80 lakh to vegetable, flower and coconut vendors from Margao and its surrounding areas, after launching the construction work for nullah at Pajifond, Margao on Tuesday.
The financial aid was given to 116 beneficiaries under the scheme of the Social Welfare Department. Each beneficiary was given a cheque of Rs 5000.
Speaking on the occasion, the Chief Minister said that his Government is working towards the welfare of weaker sections of the society. The Chief Minister informed that various schemes are being implemented not only to assist the needy and the poor, but also to self-help groups to promote self employment. He also urged the women involved with self-help groups to adhere to sincerity and honesty to achieve success in life.
The Chief Minister said Goa has entered into the Golden Jubilee Year of its Liberation. The people of Goa will always remain indebted to the sacrifices of the freedom fighters; Kamat said and added that efforts are being made to provide jobs to the children of freedom fighters.
