Wishing the people of Goa, the Governor in his message said — Goa observes 18th June as ‘Revolution Day’, as it was on this day in 1946, that patriotic Goans along with their compatriots from the rest of the country, launched a peaceful mass movement against the oppressive colonial rule upon a clarion call given by illustrious freedom fighter Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia.
He said, “On this occasion, I have great pleasure in joining the people of Goa in paying homage to all the brave and spirited sons and daughters of our country, who selflessly struggled, suffered and sacrificed for the supreme cause of Goa’s liberation.
He stated in his message that it was a matter of pride and joy not only for the people of Goa, but also for the people from the rest of the country that the long-drawn freedom movement became a great success and Goa rejoined Mother-India, thanks to the determined efforts and sacrifices of the valiant freedom fighters.
It is also a matter of satisfaction for all of us that during the 50 years after liberation, Goa has made tremendous progress in all spheres of human activity, and is today one of the most progressive states of the country, he said.
The Goa Revolution Day is an appropriate occasion for the people of Goa to re-dedicate them to the cause of consolidating the hard-earned freedom and also to make further progress in different fields, he said and appealed to the people of Goa to remain united and strive for lasting peace and prosperity to their state and the country.
Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar, in his message said, “The freedom struggle of Goa entered its last and final phase when Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia, nationalist leader gave clarion call to the people of Goa to unite and fight against the colonial rule on 18th June 1946 from Margao.
This historic day is celebrated as ‘Goa Kranti Din’ to recollect the saga of the struggle of the people of Goa freedom, he said.
He further informed that on this occasion seven freedom fighters, posthumous and living who participated in the freedom struggle and scarified their precious lives for Goa’s freedom, will be honoured.
On this occasion let us rededicate ourselves and work hand in hand to maintain rich traditions and communal harmony in the State, he appealed.
