Governor extends Ganesh Chaturthi greetings

Panaji: Goa Governor P S Sreedharan Pillai on Thursday conveyed heartiest greetings and warm wishes to the people of Goa, on the eve of Ganesh Chaturthi.

In his message, the Governor said,”Lord Ganesh occupies a special place in the pantheon of Gods. He has been conferred the honour of first among the Gods. Therefore, any important event or puja begins first with Ganesh Puja. He is also known as Vigneshwar who is remover of all obstacles and the lord of success. He is, therefore, a very popular God, loved and worshipped by everyone with equal zeal. It is for this reason that Lokmanya Tilak, who dominated the freedom struggle prior to 1920, decided to popularize Ganesh Chaturthi as a national festival with the objective of uniting all the people of India. He began Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav as a community event that serves as a meeting place for all irrespective of caste and community.”

The Governor said, ”Ganesh Chaturthi is thus a unique and popular festival promoting amity, special harmony and mutual understanding. The festival reaffirms our faith in the principle of unity in diversity. The celebration of Ganesh Chaturthi in Goa by all communities with so much of devotion and enthusiasm epitomizes the unity and spiritual harmony of Goan society.”

“This year, the Government has cautioned people that festivals should be celebrated in accordance with Covid appropriate behavior. I would like to urge all the people of Goa to strictly follow health protocol and stay safe and healthy,” he said.

”On this auspicious occasion, may Lord Ganesh bestow his grace on every household and bless one and all with abundant wisdom, success, happiness and prosperity,” the Governor said.
