New Delhi, Dec 28 (GCCurrentAffairs) On his birth anniversary, the Modi government on Saturday announced that it will hold the maiden Arun Jaitley Memorial Lecture on March 20 next year.
Making the announcement, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman said the first of this annual program be followed by an ‘Economists Conclave’ the next day – March 21, 2020.
“Eminent economists shall be invited. Grateful to PMO India for consenting to launch this event,” she said.
“Honoured to announce this on Shri Jaitley’s birthday, today. Thankful to Shri Narendra Modito have come up with this thought and to have given it a structure. The Lecture and the Conclave shall hopefully be a fitting tribute to Shri Arun Jaitley and his inspiring leadership,” she said.
Late Jaitley, an erudite orator and a great parliamentarian, was born on December 28, 1952 and expired on August 24, 2019.
He was Finance Minister during the Modi government between May 2014 and May 2019.
The BJP leader was known for debating skills in Parliament and had served as Minister under Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Narendra Modi.
Earlier in the day, a host of BJP leaders including Union Ministers and cricketer-turned-politician Gautam Gambhir, MP, on Saturday paid their homage to Late Arun Jaitley, former Minister, on his birth anniversary.
