Faced with the BJP’s threat to launch an agitation if no action is taken against the casinos operating in river Mandovi without trading licenses, the government has now sought the legal opinion on this issue from the Law Department said Chief Secretary Sanjay Srivastava.
The Law Department has been asked to advise whether the government can close down the casinos for operating without a trading license.
He however remained non-committal on when the notices will be issued to the casino owners stating that it will all depend upon the opinion given by the law department.
Meanwhile, Minister for Ports Nilkanth Halarnkar said that his department will enquire into how the vessels are operating in the river without the license.
He said the department has granted the vessel owners three months period to get the necessary license following which necessary action will be taken.
