11 employees of the River Navigation Department, were arrested on Friday by the Porvorim Police for gambling in open space during office hours.
On receiving information, at around 1:40 pm, police raided the RND complex at Betim and managed to nab 11 employees who were gambling in the open area of the complex, while some did manage to escape.
Police attached an amount of ` 12,600 recovered from the gamblers along with cards. All the arrested were later released on bail and personal bond. However, they have been booked under the Goa Prevention of Gambling Act.
The 11 employees arrested are: Suresh Narayan Salgaonkar, Bhagwan Harichandra Halarnkar, Vithu Kubal, Dyanand Parab, Ramesh Sawant, Satyendra Nanda Halarnkar, Umeshkant Tari, Shivanand Bhonsle, Narayan Chodnekar, Yeshwant Kubal and Sebastian Fernandes.
Whether the government will take any action against these employees who were gambling during office hours is not yet known.
