The villagers of Orlim on Wednesday accused the authorities of reviving long abandoned land acquisition proceedings in Orlim solely to benefit a builder, Meenakshi Financial Consultants.
Addressing media persons on behalf of the villagers, Wilma Martins said that they have been having a tough time with the government authorities to deal with a builder who has blocked the traditional path of the villager farmers to their fields at Palkuta.
She accused the public works department and land acquisition authorities of reopening the long abandoned land acquisition which was opposed in 1995 by the Orlim Panchayat and the villagers as it sought to broaden the existing road from 3 metres to about 6 to 8 metres.
Martins said that when they came to know about this revival, they approached PWD Minister Churchill Alemao who is also their local MLA and requested him to either drop the acquisition or realign it as per the present road and keep the same width as due to this almost 1,100 metres of land would be affected including the existing houses and boundary walls.
However, though Churchill had promised to realign the road she regretted that till date he has not honoured his promise even though he prides on keeping his promise.
The villagers have threatened to take legal action against this and expose the injustice being done to them to benefit the builder.
