Goa Government has decided to notify surface utilization plans for Regional Plan 2021 for all the mining affected talukas together. These mining affected talukas are Quepem, Bicholim, Sattari and Sanguem as they have high density of mines.
The surface utilization plans of these talukas are being given final touches by the state level committee (SLC) led by Chief Minister Digambar Kamat. The Plan for Sattari taluka has been already cleared by the SLC on 14th January but its notification has been held back due to the other three talukas.
The SLC has also asked the state mining department to furnish details of mines existing in these talukas. “The details of working and non working mining sites would be taken and mapped in the plan,” a senior official said adding that the issue of illegal mining would also be handled in the RP 2021.
The RP, a land utilisation document prepared by the State Government, has met with the opposition with several activists questioning government’s intentions behind it. They termed it as a plot to favour few builders and people in the hospitality sector.
Goa government drafted RP 2021 following a tedious exercise. Initially, suggestions from all the panchayats were taken which were considered by a task force headed by Charles Correia. This draft RP 2021 prepared by the task force is being scrutinized by SLC before its final notification.
