Chief Minister Digambar Kamat on Wednesday said the state government will not nationalize Goa’s waterways while replying to the question raised by Mayem MLA Anant Shet during ‘Question Hour’. This was with reference to the proposal of central government to declare Goa’s rivers as national waterways.
Earlier, in his written reply, River Navigation Minister Sudin Dhavlikar informed that the proposal is in its preliminary stage and a draft cabinet note to declare Goa’s rivers as national waterways has been already forwarded to the government.
Leader of Opposition Manohar Parrikar questioned about River Navigation Department’s authorities in handling this matter and said that Captain of Ports should also be taken into consideration with regard to this matter. However, the chief minister, firm about government’s decision not to nationalize Goa’s waterways said that the proposal has been dropped.
