At its second major public meeting held on Friday at Lohia Maidan, Margao, the Goemchea Rakhondarancho Awaz (GRA) reiterated its promise to act as a catalyst to bring about a change in Goa’s political set-up while demanding that the government immediately start a dialogue for installing the Lokayukta in Goa and also getting special status for Goa.
Besides demanding a special cell to stop all illegal and semi-legal mines in the State, it was also demanded that the operations at legal mines be monitored to ensure that there is no over mining done. GRA also demanded that the electoral rolls should be sanitized and censured the Opposition for indulging in mere shadow boxing.
While demanding that the Regional Plan 2021 should be people centric, the meeting also demanded that all illegal construction be stopped immediately and called upon the government to address burning issues like garbage and parking.
In fact, with regards to the constitution of Lokayukta, the meeting resolved that the law should be enacted latest by 19th December 2011 to coincide with the golden jubilee of Goa’s liberation from the Portuguese so that now it can be liberated from the menace of corrupt politicians and bureaucrats.
Earlier, various speakers highlighted the problems faced by different sections of the society to press the point that Goan today are insecure and the government is failing to address their problems. The refrain was that once elected, the MLAs and other representatives become agents for vested interests instead of the people.
