Hamirpur (HP): Around 76 per cent voters cast their votes in the first round of voting for the 85 gram panchayats of the district on Sunday. The polling that started at 8.00 A.M ended at 4.00 P.M.
However, it was still continuing at various polling stations of the district due to the heavy rush of the voters that had gathered outside the polling stations for casting their votes.
Women once again outnumbered men while casting their votes and by 2.00 P.M as many as 40,078 women voters had cast their votes as against 30,786 male voters.
Reports reaching here revealed that the women voters came in large numbers at the polling stations to exercise their right of franchise. They came in their own groups whereas the men came all alone at the polling stations.
Deputy Commissioner, Debashweta Banik who toured different parts of the district to monitor the polling process said that proper SOP was observed during the polling and it was peaceful in every respect.
She said that the second phase of the PRI election would be held on January 19th and for which the polling parties from the nearby polling stations where the polling was held today would reach there by tomorrow morning/afternoon.
