Goa Governor Dr. S S Sidhu has moved the Bombay High Court at Panjim to challenge the order of the Goa Information Commission declaring him to be a “public authority” under the Right to Information Act.
It may be recalled that activist Aires Rodrigues had appealed to the Information Commissioner after the Governor’s office refused to give him information arguing that the office of the Governor was not a “public authority”.
The Information Commissioner in his order had decreed that the Governor was indeed a public authority and had directed the Governor to furnish the information sought by Adv. Rodrigues.
The Governor has now challenged this order before the High Court and his case will be taken up for hearing on 25th April.
