GVP pledges support to BJP for next ten years

Though the actions of the Goa Vikas Party (GVP) is always subjected to conditions suitable and favorable for their long-term political interests, it should not come as a surprise to many that GVP – Supremo, Mickky Pacheco has pledge support to the current BJP-led government for the next ten years because at this stage waltzing with the Manohar Parrikar will prove more viable than aligning with the Congress. Though, during the run-up to the Cortalim by-poll, Pacheco did try to forge an alliance with Congress but it never happened, so the best alternative was to piggy-back on BJP.

For the Parrikar-led government this alliance will help keep in check the disgruntled elements of the Congress party in the Salcete belt which is still not a wholly-controlled domain of the BJP; however it appears to be more a need for GVP than BJP to be aligned, which would explain why GVP pledged their support to BJP and not the BJP to GVP. In fact Parrikar brushed off the luncheon meeting on Sunday at Betalbatim as an introductory meeting with the Sarpanch and Panch of the Benaulim and Nuvem constituencies and that he would look at some of the development works in the two constituencies; and not an alliance forged for the next ten years.
