Hamirpur (HP): With the ending of the first phase polling for the PRI elections in the district on Sunday with a bright note and women taking a commanding lead over the men counterparts, the state is set for the second phase of polling on Tuesday.
The women recorded 54 per cent of polling in the first phase relegating the men to 46% polling and they were going to maintain the same tempo in the second and third phases of polling respectively.
The official sources confirmed that out of 1,27,690 voters in the first phase as many as 96,756 exercised their right of franchise out of which there were 52,030 women and 44,726 men.
In the second phase of polling, 82 gram panchayats of the district would go for the polling on 476 polling stations across the district.
There are reports that about 1,30,000 voters are likely to take part in the second phase of the election.
Polling parties that conducted the polling in different parts of the district on Sunday have started moving to their next places where they were to conduct the polling on Tuesday.
Deputy Commissioner, Debashweta Banik thanked the people of the district for coming in such large numbers for the polling but added that she was expecting more polling in the coming two phases on January 19 and 21.
On other hand, candidates and their workers with an eye on the victory in the elections have fanned out in the masses and are approaching them through a door to door campaign so that no one has remained untouched.
They are taking this step in wake of the results from the first phase where many big wigs lost to first timers and no one can take guarantee that he/she is in the winning position.
