Lucknow: A 19-year old woman who was gang-raped by four men in the Hathras district of Uttar Pradesh has succumbed to her injuries and died.
Four men who have been arrested by the UP Police gang-raped the woman belonging to the Dalit community on September 14, 2020.
Post her brutal rape the victim was shifted to the Delhi Hospital in critical condition and had been in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU), she was earlier admitted to Aligarh’s JN Medical College Hospital.
The name of the four accused, as identified by the woman, are Sandip, Ramu, Lavkush, and Ravi.
According to an earlier statement issued by Hathras Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Vir, the woman had gone to the fields along with her mother on the day of the incident. When family members searched the girl after she went missing, they found her in critical condition.
Besides gang-raping her, the perpetrators also physically assaulted her. There was a serious cut on her tongue, indicating that there was an attempt to strangulate her, the SP added.
All the accused had been booked under Section 307 (attempt to murder) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and later charged with gang-rape under Section 376 D, according to Hathras ASP Prakash Kumar. He had said that the case will be tried by a fast-track court.
