Hatred, Crowd, and COVID

Amid the horrific spike of COVID-19, On April 9th a horrendous scenario was spotted at the Islamia ground in Bareilly. Let’s get back to a few days ago from when it all has started. On 7th April 2021, Wednesday Aam Aadmi Party minister and chief of Sunni Waqf Board Amanatullah Khan threatened violence against Swami Narsinghanand, the mahant of Dasna temple over his alleged remarks against Prophet Mohammad.

Amanatullah Khan posted a video saying “we are here with numerous Imams from different parts of Delhi. We have issued sermons during Jummah (Friday Prayers) on April 9th. Imams across Delhi and other states of India will give directions against condemnatory comments made by Swamiji. They will demand his immediate arrest. As long as he is not behind bars, our agitation will continue.”

In another video, Amanatullah Khan could be seen giving threats of violence. He said “If Muslims are silent today, it is only because they are handling the situation with intelligence. If Muslims hit the streets, they will teach the lesson ‘eenth se eenth Baja denge.’ Muslims of the world cannot tolerate the insult of Prophet Mohammad. If you believe otherwise, then it is your misunderstanding. Muslims are tolerating this issue as they don’t want to destroy the harmony of the country.” Chanting the slogans of ‘Allahu Akbar’ and ‘Naara-e-takbir’ he further said that “There will be sermons in every mosque during Jummah and the government will become active then. I strongly believe that this will happen in every corner of the country and a memorandum will be a

In a full video, a host named Farhan Yahiya could be heard saying, “If Sharia was imposed in India then he would have been beheaded.” He deplored that in its absence, anyone can mock the Prophet of Islam. One of the clerics said “Amanatullah Khan has requested the Delhi and the Union government to take strict actions against such agitators. This would prevent insult of Islam and other religions, otherwise, this will continue unabated”.

Amanatullah Khan following Sharia had earlier issued a death threat calling for the beheading of Swami Yati Narsinghanand Saraswati. Taking the chaos further lakhs of Muslims gathered in Bareilly demanding the same. After the Hindu saint made some comments, Muslim fanatics across the country are hounding for his blood.

On 9th April 2021, after the Friday prayers, a large number of Muslims gathered at the Islamia ground in Bareily, demanding action against Yati Narsinghanand. Slogans of beheading the priest were heard amid the hateful speech of clerics. Several Muslims shared videos of the gathering on various social media platforms referring to Yati Narsinghanand as a ‘Bhagwa Terrorist’.

In a state where COVID cases are touching a huge number of 821K and around 9K plus mortalities this crowd had given a huge contribution in spreading the infection. Unfortunately, no national media is covering the reality of the sudden surge in the cases in the state.

Also nowadays, the festival of Ramadan has started for Muslims which is one of the important festivals for the community. It stirred them to visit the mosque present nearby. This is also contributing to an increase in COVID cases as it is difficult for the administration to conduct proper surveillance.

It’s high time when it is not important that from which religion we belong, also it is not appropriate time to play the blame games. As the nation is fighting from a life-threatening pandemic with situations being so tough, everyone has to unite and help the nation to recover from this situation. Always try to avoid crowded places and maintain social distancing. Avoid unnecessary visits to crowded places and stay at home.
